Bancroft Mills

The massive Bancroft Mill complex was the largest and longest running mill in Delewares Brandywine Valley before it went bankrupt in 2003. The Bancroft Mill Co had been a textile finishing plant since 1831 built on the site of the former Gilpin paper mill (1787) and Riddle Cotton Mill (1845). In 1930 the Bancroft Mill contained the largest cotton finishing plant in the world. Structures from the 1700's, 1800's, and 1900's all exist on the property as of winter 2006. Located on prime waterfront near downtown Wilmington, the site was purchased by residential developer O'neill Properties who has already begun transforming the site into top dollar town homes.
